Joe R. Gilbert, age 78, passed away at Stark
Memorial Hospital in Knox,Indiana. He was a resident of Knox and of
Brown County.
Joe was born February 11, 1933 in Burkesville, KY
to the late Wid & Fannie (Bunch) Gilbert. He served as a
Corporal with the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. Joe
went on to work for General Motors and retire after more than 34
years as a Grinder.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia
M. (Fox) Leonard, whom he married on October 8, 1951 in
Anderson. Also surviving are his five children: Janice
(husband, Doug) Taylor of Eastern, KY, Joanna Brancheau of Muncie,
Sherry Lane of Elwood, William Gilbert of Frankton & Cameron R.
(wife, Julie) of Knox. Joe will be remembered by his sister: Mary
Elizabeth Dyer of Tennessee; one brother: Keith Gilbert of
Burkesville, KY, eight grandchildren & seven
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Jessie
Scott, Betty Sue Kessling, Shelby Gilbert, John Gilbert and Maxine
Wells.
Joe was a member of the Local UAW 662 Union and
attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Knox. He enjoyed working on
his property in BrownCounty, playing euchre, and helping the
elderly with odd jobs. Joe was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts, as
well as, Indiana University and University of Louisville
basketball.
The Rev. Brian Pinson will conduct a Funeral
Service 1 pm Friday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation
& Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown.
Friends may call from 12 pm until service time on Friday at the
funeral home. Burial will be at Goshen Cemetery in Brown County.
Military Graveside rights will be presented by the Brown County
Veterans of foreign Wars and American Legion Honor Guards.
Memorial contributions may be sent in honor of Joe
to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 S. Jude Place, Memphis,
TN 38105.
