Howard Sizemore age 87 passed away quietly surrounded by his
loving family on Friday afternoon, April 1, 2011 at his residence
in Franklin.
He was born January 14, 1924 in Hyden, KY to the late Millard and
Lu Ellen (Napier) Sizemore. Howard married Mary J. (Couch) Sizemore
on September 23, 1944 in Manchester, KY. She preceded him in death
after 62 devoted years on December 17, 2006.
Howard served as a Seaman with the United States Coast Guard during
World War II.
He was the loving father of four daughters: Barbara (husband,
Rodney) Kinman of Columbus, Betty (husband, Vance) Groves of
Edinburgh, Vickey (husband, Dennis) Otte of Seymour & Marilyn
(husband, Jerome) Baker of Franklin and one son: Steve (wife,
Stacy) Sizemore of Franklin. Howard will be missed by his sister:
Hazel Hubbard of Peoga;15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren
& 2 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son: Rick Sizemore; two sisters:
Addie Sizemore & Gracie Sizemore and four brothers: Hirman,
David, Sidney & Felix Sizemore.
Howard worked in the coal mines of Kentucky before making his way
to Indiana. He retired in 1975 as a General Foreman with Central
Engineering Construction in Indianapolis after 31 years of
service.
Howard was a member and Founding Elder of the Trinity Holiness
Tabernacle Church in Franklin and a former member of Locust Grove
Church in Brown County. He was also a member of the Laborers
International Union Local 120 in Indianapolis. Howard was known for
his great story telling and quick wit. He treasured the time spent
with his family during the holidays, especially at Christmas time.
Howard enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Double Y Saddle Club
in Brown County where he was proud to be the oldest rider at the
HorsemanÂ's Camp.
The Revs. Jerome Baker and Jay Griffie will conduct a funeral
service 10 am Wednesday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation
& Personalization Center, 179 East Mulberry Street in
Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral
home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Greenwood
American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
