Helen Louise (Walker) Woods, age 83 passed away Saturday
evening, June 11, 2011 at the Franklin United Methodist Community.
She was a resident of Trafalgar.
Helen was born January 25, 1928 in Morgan County to the late
Lawrence E. & Helen R. (Henry) Walker. She married William P.
"Bill" Woods Jr. on September 30, 1950 at the First Christian
Church in Morgantown. He preceded her in death on November 15, 2009
after 58 loving years.
Helen will be remembered by three sisters: Marjorie Ross of
Paragon, Carolyn Roush of Franklin & Catherine (husband,
Maurice) Barnes of Brown County; and several nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her only child: Patrick L. Woods on
February 16, 1995; and two brothers: Herman & Earl
Walker.
Helen was a 1945 Graduate of Paragon High School and received her
Bachelor of Science Degree from Ball State in 1948. She went on to
earn her Masters in Education from Indiana University. Helen began
her teaching career by teaching music and business at Center Grove,
Morgantown & Trafalgar High Schools. She retired as a Business
Teacher from Indian Creek High School in 1984.
Helen was a 62 year member of the First Christian Church of
Morgantown where she taught Sunday School and was the choir
director for over 30 years. Helen loved traveling & camping
with her husband, and was also a member of the Indiana Chapter of
the Good Sam Club #14 since 1972 where she was the past Treasurer
and Historian. Other memberships include Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority
XI Chapter of Morgantown where she was the Past President,
Secretary and Treasurer. She also was a member of the Indiana State
Retired Teachers Association. Helen enjoyed knitting and embroidery
and was a fan of Indiana University Basketball & the
Indianapolis Colts.
The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 1:00 PM on
Wednesday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation &
Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown.
Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Kappa Kappa Sigma Soroity will conduct a memorial service at 7:30
PM on Tuesday evening at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest
next to her husband at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in
Greenwood.
