Burial will be at Nebo Memorial Park in Martinsville with Military graveside rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards. |
Edgar E. Graves age 83 passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at
Kindred Hospital South in Greenwood. He was a life-long resident of
Morgantown.
Edgar was born on March 19, 1927 in Salem to the late Shannon D.
& Thelma Grace (King) Graves. He lives in the heart of his wife
of 56 years, Eva Mae (Voorheis) Graves whom he married on March 5,
1954 in Morgantown. She lovingly survives.
He was a 1945 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to
serve his country as a Seaman First Class with the United States
Navy during World War II. Edgar was a 70 year member of the First
Christian Church of Morgantown, member of the Martinsville American
Legion Post #230, 50 year member of the Monday Night Bowling League
in Martinsville and was a charter member of the Jr. Chamber of
Commerce in Morgantown.
Edgar retired in 1989 as Head Custodian for the Indian Creek Middle
School in Trafalgar after 37 years of service. During that time, he
worked as a school bus driver from 1951 to 1976, worked as a
mechanic in the bus garage and outdoor maintenance. Prior to that,
he worked in the Casting Dept. for Herf Jones in Indianapolis, the
Stockton Company & Whitaker Chevrolet both of Morgantown. Edgar
also helped his son with his auction & restaurant business and
was the former manager of the Morgantown Skating Rink.
He loved fishing, was an avid bowler, enjoyed reading and was a fan
of IU Basketball. Edgar loved to watch the humming birds, mourning
doves and deer & squirrels wonder into his yard. He was a fan
of gospel music by Bill Gaither and enjoyed spending time with his
grandchildren and great grand children.
Edgar was the loving father to Michael E. Graves and his wife
Belinda of Franklin and Garry L. Graves and his wife Vickie of
Martinsville. Edgar was an inspiration to his grandchildren:
Katrina Napier, Lisa Johnson, Shannon Graves, Timothy Graves and
George & Tina Hubbard. Edgar was great grandpa to 13 and an
uncle to several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Wilma Coffeyward.
