On Monday, February 28, 2011, Cecil E. Sturgeon left this life to go home to be with the Lord at age 83. He passed away peacefully at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis surrounded by his loving children: Debra Diana (husband, Stanley) Eads of Trafalgar and Terry Eugene (wife, Sheila) Sturgeon of Connersville.

He was born June 21, 1927 in Nashville to the late Harley James and Rachel (Deckard) Sturgeon. After attending school in Nashville, Cecil went on to serve as a Seaman Second Class with the United States Navy during World War II. After returning home, he married his loving wife, Retta Jane (Robertson) Sturgeon on January 22, 1949 in Nashville. Retta preceded him in death on June 6, 2003 after 53 devoted years.

Cecil worked as a mechanic for more than 40 years. His long career as a mechanic started at Foxworthy Ford in Indianapolis from 1950 to 1968. He then went to Smart & Perry Ford in Greenwood from 1968 to 1971, Matlock Ford in Franklin from 1971 to 1984 and then retired in 1984 from Dan Paris in Franklin.

Cecil will be remembered by his siblings: Lois Marie (John) Stephens of Ellettsville, Dorothy Mae Walker of Columbus, Mary Doris Bay of Nashville, He was the cherished grandpa to seven grandchildren: Amanda Hewitt, Rebecca Stargil, Somer Kantz, Trey Sturgeon, Derek, Dustin & Daryl Eads; and eleven great-grandchildren and one on the way; Oland Chumbley a close friend and fishing buddy down the road.

Cecil was preceded in death by two brothers: Charles Sturgeon & James Sturgeon both of Brown County

He volunteered for more than 15 years with the Fellowship Associates of Medical Evangelists in Columbus and was a 60 year member of the Fair Haven Christian Church, where he spent many hours volunteering and helping with projects of the church. He enjoyed fishing and farming, which he did most of his life.

The Rev. Jeff Johnson will conduct a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Fair Haven Christian Church, 1476 W. 300 S. in Franklin. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at church. Cecil will be laid to rest beside his wife at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Military Graveside Rites will be presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
