Beverly K. (Webster) Smithey, age 57 went home to be with the
Lord, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Saturday afternoon,
February 26, 2011 at Morgan Hospital & Medical Center in
Martinsville. She was a resident of Martinsville and former
resident of Greenwood.
By her side, was her devoted and caring husband of 28 years, Jay D.
Smithey of Martinsville and her two loving children: Amy N.
(husband, Christopher) Page of Indianapolis & Adam R. Smithey
of Martinsville.
Beverly was born September 5, 1953 in Dayton, OH to Gale E. &
Mary N. (Harbour) Webster. She was a 1971 graduate of Tecumseh High
School in New Carlisle, OH. Beverly married Jay D. Smithey on June
5, 1982 at the Lake of the Woods Church in Brown County.
She was a loving homemaker and a very active volunteer. Beverly was
a 10 year member of the Morgantown Baptist Church, where she
volunteered with Awana, Vacation Bible School & Teen Activities
and was also a member of the Women's Bible Study. She was the past
chairperson of the Morgan County Schoolhouse Quilters Guild and was
the local coordinator for the nationally recognized "Home of the
Brave" Campaign. Beverly was a member of the Indianapolis Chapter
of the American Sewing Guild Martinsville Neighborhood Group.
She was an avid reader of her Bible, lover of all animals, enjoyed
bowling and was a Master Gardner. Beverly enjoyed spending time
with her grandchildren and was affectionately known by them as
"Play-Doh Grandma".
Other survivors include: her mother: Mary N. Webster of New
Carlisle, OH; two grandchildren: Owen & Cooper Page of
Indianapolis; one sister: Pattie (husband, David) Taylor of New
Carlisle, OH; two brothers: Mike (wife, Rosemary) Webster of
Lewisburg, OH & Geoff (wife, Lisa) Webster of Columbus, OH; and
several nieces & nephews.
Beverly was preceded in death by her father: Gale E. Webster and a
granddaughter: Kennedy Jane.
The Rev. Ben Swopes will conduct a funeral service 10:30 AM
Wednesday at the Morgantown Baptist Church, 109 E. Elm Street in
Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday at the
church. She will be laid to rest at East Hill Cemetery in
Morgantown.
Memorial contributions may be sent in honor of Beverly to the
Regional Cancer Center at Morgan Hospital & Medical Center,
2209 John R. Wooden Drive, Martinsville, IN 46151.
