Benjamin Wallace Voils age 69 passed away Monday evening, January 17, 2011 at his residence in Brown County.

He was born August 9, 1941 in Midway, Kentucky to the late Alex and Artie (Martin) Voils. Wallace accepted Jesus as his personal Savior in March of 1952 and was baptized at the Mt. Salem Baptist Church in Mt. Salem, Kentucky. He moved to Indiana in 1955 and met his loving wife of 52 years Lue Cindy Jones, whom he married on August 15, 1958 in Indianapolis. Lue survives.

Wallace leaves behind three sons: Wally (wife Tammy) Voils, Rex (wife Gwyn) & David (wife Melodie) Voils all of Brown County; eight grandchildren: Ben (wife Sherry) Voils, Matthew (wife Jessica) Voils, Rual (wife Miranda) Voils, Rusty (wife Kira) Voils, Buster (Fiancé Hannah) Voils, Alex Voils, Sindy (husband Matt) Woolems & Jamie Voils; thirteen great grandchildren: Benny, Devin, Trinity, Matty, Easton Matthew, Rual Jr., Aubrie Lueanne Voils, Jade & Emma Kaye Woolems, Brayton, Tristan, Marissa & Skylar Webb. He will be remembered by his one sister: Jewell Ashley of Indianapolis; several special nieces, nephews & friends.

Wallace was preceded in death by three sisters: Lena Lucas, Virginia Lucas & Norine Carman; three brothers: James, Raymond & Norman Voils who are all in Heaven.

He retired in 2003, as the owner and operator of Voils plumbing after 39 years of service. Wallace was a founder and member of the Faith Baptist Church in Brown County from 1987 to 2002. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his family. Wallace was a pitcher on the Sunshine Baptist Church fast-pitch softball team and later coached his sons in the Edgewood Little League both in Indianapolis. When moving to Brown County in 1977, he coached his grandsons in baseball & basketball and his granddaughter in softball.

Alongside his sons, Wallace, a.k.a. Fireball, played and coached a men's softball team from 1988 to 2000 in Bloomington & Indianapolis. They won the Men's Major National Championship in 1999 where he was voted "Coach of the Year All Tournament Team". Wallace donated and built the concessions stand at the Helmsburg ball field and also donated the land for the Endwright Center & Senior Citizens Area Ten in Ellettsville. He also was a financial support and helped build the ball fields at Deer Run Park in Nashville.

The Rev. James Brown & Chaplin Susan Hanscom will conduct a funeral service 11:00 am Thursday at the Bean Blossom Baptist Church, 5858 Spearsville Road in Brown County. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery.
