Alberta Lou "Bert" (Day) Offutt, age 92 passed away
peacefully Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at the Franklin United
Methodist Community. She was a resident of Franklin and a
former resident of Columbus and Vincennes. By her side, was
her loving husband: Rev. William S. Offutt, her
daughter: Judie and grandson: Doug.
Bert was born on November 27, 1918 in Vincennes to the
late Ralph C. & Lydia (Campbell) Day. She married Rev.
William S. Offutt, her husband of 72 years on Nov. 26, 1938, he
survives. Bert was a 1936 graduate of Lincoln High School in
Vincennes and went on to study at Vincennes University and the
Barnes Hospital School of Nursing at Washington University in St.
Louis, MO.
Bert was a devoted preacher's wife, homemaker and loving mother
to her daughter: Judie Lahr of Columbus. She will be
remembered by her three grandchildren: Douglas (Carrie) Lahr
of Indianapolis, Scott (Nicole) Offutt of Alexandria,
VA & Rene (Frank) Godoy of North Carolina; five great
grandchildren: Colton, Parker & Norah Lahr of
Indianapolis and Elyssa & Caillou Godoy and daughter - in
- law: Roz Ann Offutt all of North Carolina. She is
also survived by fifteen nieces and nephews.
Bert was preceded in death by a son: David S. Offutt, a
son - in - law: James A. Lahr, one grandson: Brian J.
Lahr and two brothers: Thomas and Robert Day.
She was a fifty year member of the Order of Eastern Star,
Vincennes Chapter 291 and a member of the Tri Kappa. She
attened Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin and the Wright
Chapel at the Franklin United Methodist Community. Bert was
an active volunteer in the carious cities and church communities
where she and her husband resided. " Friendly" & " Feisty
", she enjoyed being with people and would wish the memories of her
to be happy ones.
The Rev. David Lee will conduct a Celebration of Bert's Life at
1:30 pm on Monday, October 3, 2011 at the Franklin United Methodist
Community's Wright Chapel, 1070 West Jefferson Street,
Franklin. Following the service, a reception will be held by
Bert's Family in the Fellowship Hall at the Franklin United
Methodist Community for friends and family.
Memorial Contributions may be made in honor of Bert to the
Benevolent Fund of the Franklin United Methodist Community, 1070
